It is though that rubber was first used around 1600 BC by the people of Mesoamericans, an ancient region of central America and Mexico. Fast forward some 3600 years later, rubber products are commonly seen and used, and thus can be considered to be indispensable. Rubber fall into two broad category: natural (latex from plants), and synthetic (made artificially with petroleum byproducts) – namely Neoprene , Nitrile Butadiene (NBR), Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), Silicone and Viton.
Despite the huge variety of rubbers available in the market, we at Shenton Engineering have inventories of synthetic and natural rubbers in various dimensions and thickness.
Perhaps, it is best known as a material for wetsuit.
It is flexible, stretchy, resistant to water, greases, oils, solvents, heat, ozone and weather aging.
Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR):
Disposable non-latex gloves might come to your mind when nitrile rubber is mentioned. This is because of its resilience properties and superior strength.
In fact, NBR has good resistance to mineral oils, vegetable oils, benzene/petrol, ordinary diluted acids and alkalines.
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer):
Widely used and fastest growing synthetic rubbers with both speciality and general-purpose application.
Overall, good resistance to heat, oxidation, ozone, weather aging and polar solvents. Furthermore it acts as an electrical insulator.
Non-reactive, stable, flexible, and resistant to extreme temperatures and environments – while being able to maintain its properties.
Fluoropolymer elastomer that could be used in a variety of high performance applications in the marine, offshore, oil & gas, aerospace and petrochemical industries.
Excellent resistance to chemicals, oils, heat, oxidation, weather, fungus and mold.
It is waterproof, high resilience and flexible. Moreover, it is also an electrical insulator.
